Question
Why benzoic acid is less soluble in water than acetic acid?

Answer

Due to polar nature of the $C = O$ and $O - H$ parts of COOH group, both $CH _3 COOH$ and $C _6 H _5 COOH$ from H -bonds with water. But due to large hydrocarbon part the extent of H -bonding is much lower in benzoic acid than acetic acid and hence benzoic acid is much less soluble in water than acetic acid.
