Raja Ram Mohan Roy and Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar were prominent social reformers. They realised that the main reason for servility is lack of education. According to them, until the nation is educated, it will not progress or develop. So. they made efforts individually and through institutions, with the cooperation of the British government to start basic educational activities in India. Raja Ram Mohan Roy established the Brahmo Samaj in $1828\ AD.$ Raja Ram Mohan Roy provided moral support to William Bentinck to start English education in India. His efforts marked the beginning of English education in India Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar made efforts during $1849-1850\ AD,$ to start schools in Bengal. Due to his efforts. schools were established for boys as well as girls in Bengal.
