Why did the Mughal emperor agree to support the rebels?

The Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar agreed to supports the rebels because he felt that if the rebellion was successful, he would be able to rule again. Many people in India were not happy with the British rulers and Emperor felt the same way. He also wanted India to be free from British control.
