Question
Why is an apple called a false fruit and a banana a parthenocarpic fruit? Explain.
✓
Answer
In normal conditions, the fruit develops from the ovary. However, in apple the thalamus also contributes to fruit formation. That is why it is called a false fruit. Banana is called a parthenocarpic fruit because it develops without fertilisation and is thus seedless.
