Food security is essential in India so as to provide food to each and every person of the country so that no citizen can die because of hunger.
  1. Due to a natural calamity say drought, total production of the foodgrains decreases.
  2. It creates a shortage of food in the affected areas.
  3. Due to shortage of food, the prices goes up.
  4. At high prices some people cannot afford to buy food.
  5. If such calamity happens in a very widespread area or is stretched over a longer period of time, it may cause a situation of starvation.
