Derry was a boy of fourteen and one side of his face was acid burnt. People felt scared of him and he didn't like to be in the company of people as they passed crude remarks about him. Derry had become very negative. When he walked into Mr. Lamb's garden uninvited he was afraid that the owner might have thought him to be a thief. However, Mr. Lamb welcomed him and he was drawn to the old man who also shared a physical deformity. He had lost a leg in the war and was now having a tin leg. Mr. Lamb boosted him by treating him as any normal kid. He talked about his own life and taught the young boy to move on Ignoring negative people around him. Though, they met for a short while and Mr. Lamb died when he fell from the ladder, Derry would surely move on in his life. He would understand that life was too short to get back to his old seclusion. His new found self esteem would bring in confidence and hope for a better future for Derry.
