A new idea of Bhakti movement emerged in North India in the period after 13th century. During this period, Islam, Brahmanical Hinduism, Sufism, various elements of bhakti, and the Nathpanths, Siddhas and Yogis influenced one another.
Some of the bhakti saints that emerged during this period were
Tulsidas He conceived God in the form of Rama. He composed the Ramcharitmanas in Awadhi language which is used in Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Surdas He was an intense devotee of Krishna. His poems are compiled in Sursagara, Surasaravali and Sahitya Lahari.
Shankaradeva He was a saint from Assam in the late 15th century. He was devoted to Vishnu, and composed poems and plays in Assamese language. He began setting up namghars or houses of recitation and prayer.
Mirabai She was a Rajput princess married into the royal family of Mewar in the 16th century. She was a disciple of Ravidas (a saint from a caste considered as untouchable) and a devotee of Krishna. Her songs openly challenged the norms of the upper castes and became popular in Rajasthan and Gujarat.
