SMART CITIES MISSION
Urbanisation is rapidly increasing in India. In view of this, the Government of India has launched Smart City Mission on 25 June, 2015.
"A smart city may be defined as the promotion of city considering the requirement of local economy and needs of common people of a particular city."
There is no universally accepted definition of a Smart City. It means different things to different people. Some definitional boundaries are needed to guide cities in the mission.
The picture of a smart city in the imagination of urban citizens contains a wish list of infrastructure and services.
To provide for the aspirations and needs of urban people.
The smart city integrates information and communication technology and various physical devices connected to the network to optimise the efficiency of city operations and services and connect to citizens.
Indian planners aim at developing the entire ecosystem which has four key pillars of comprehensive development. These are (1) Institutional infrastructure, (2) Physical infrastructure, (3) Social infrastructure and (4) Economic infrastructure.
