Patna: Dussehra Puja, the grand festival celebrating the victory of good over evil, was observed with great enthusiasm across the city. However, the excessive use of loudspeakers, firecrackers, and DJ sound systems led to a serious problem of noise pollution.
Despite the guidelines issued by the Pollution Control Board, sound levels in many areas crossed the permissible limits of 55 dB in residential zones. Particularly in areas like Kankarbagh, Rajendra Nagar, and Boring Road, loud DJ systems played music late into the night, disturbing the sleep of residents and affecting elderly people and students preparing for exams.
Environmentalists and doctors have raised concerns over the rising levels of noise, which can cause hearing loss, stress, and heart-related issues. The administration is being urged to take strict action and ensure noise regulations are enforced strictly in future celebrations.
