Aniline reacts with benzoyl chloride $\left( C _6 H _5 COCl \right)$ in the presence of NaOH to give N -phenyl benzamide. This reaction is known as the Schotten Baumann reaction. The acylation and benzoylation are nucleophilic substitutions.
