Causative Agent : Traponema pallidum.
Mode of Transmission : Sexual contact with contaminated person.
Incubation Period : 10 to 19 days after contact of contaminated person although sometimes begin to appear after 3 to 4 weeks of the bacterial infection commonly. Symptoms :
1. Primary lesion called chancre at the site of infection.
2. Chancre is formed on external genitalia, skin rashes and mild fever.
3. Inflamed joints, loss of hair.
4. Paralysis.
5. Degenerative changes occur in the heart and brain.
Preventive Measures :
  •  Education about sex practices,
  • Sex hygiene,
  • Avoiding sex with unknown partner or multi-partners,
  • Using condom during sex.
Treatment : Use of antibiotic penicillin.
