There are three types of volcanoes, depending on the state of the volcano or the time between the two eruptions.
$(1)$ Active volcanoes: Volcanoes from which lava, steam, gases and other substances are continuously released are called active volcanoes.

Kotopexi in South America is the world's highest active volcano.
$(2)$ Dormant volcano: A volcano that has been silent for years erupts again, it is called dormant volcano.
 
Examples are Vesuvius of Italy, Kakatoa of Indonesia, Aconcagua of Chile, and Fujia, Japan.
$(3)$ Inactive volcanoes: Inactive volcanoes are volcanoes that show no signs of erupting in the future if they become inactive lakes.
 
Kilimanjaro in Africa, Pope in Myanmar, Koh Sultan in Iran and Narkondam in the Bay of Bengal are dormant volcanoes.
