Question
Write any four points of difference between fluorine and other halogens.

Answer

FluorineOther halogens
ReactivityFluorine is much more reactive due to its small atomic size, high nuclear
charge and low F - F bond dissociation energy
Other halogens are less reactive than fluorine.
Hydrogen bondingHydrogen bonding is present in hydrides of fluorine.Hydrogen bonding is not present in hydrides of other halogens.
Oxidation stateDue to the highest electronegativity and absence of the vacant d-orbitals in the valence shell, fluorine shows only -1 oxidation state in all its compounds. Other halogens show -1 , + 1, + 3, +5 and + 7 oxidation states.
Polyhalide ionsDue to absence of vacant d-orbitals in the valence shell, fluorine does not form any polyhalide ion. Other halogens form polyhalide ions such as $I _3^{-}, Br _3^{-}, Cl _3^{-}$.
