It was during the Dalhousie's period the the first railway line that ran between Mumbai and Thane was started in $1853\ AD.$ It was inaugurated on $16$ April, $1853.$ During the same period, the telegraph service started in India between Kolkata and Peshawar and from Mumbai to Madras (Chennai). The postal system also started around the same time. In those days, the changes of post were taken from the recipie rather than the sender. These rates varied from region to region. It was during Dalhousie's time that English education and public construction works started in India. Thus, India underwent many improvements during Dalhousie's period Hence, some British reformers call him the creator of modern India.
