Question
Write short notes on : Measures to conserve minerals

Answer

The main measures to conserve the minerals are as follows:
$(1)$ It takes thousands of years for formation and conservation the minerals. So its estimated reserves should be defined and should be used with proper planning. E.g., coal and petrol are non-renewable resources. The rate of their formation is much slow compared to their rate of consumption. So the process of the mining of the minerals should be controlled.
$(2)$ The scrap of metals like iron, copper, aluminium, tin, etc. should be reused.
$(3)$ Alternative should be explored for the minerals which are found in lesser quantity or which are on verge of exhaustion, so that such minerals can be saved for a long time. For example, The use of solar power instead of electricity, aluminium instead of copper, $C.N.G.$ in place of petrol should be increased.
$(4)$ The use of non-conventional energy resources like hydro-electricity, solar energy, wind energy, biogas, tidal energy, geo-thermal energy, etc. should be increased.
$(5)$ By maintaining the quality of the environment, the future generations should be given an advantage of clean environment. that, attempts should be made to maintain pollution-free environment.
$(6)$ Energy resources are very valuable. Minerals are exhaustible. They cannot be renewed also. Moreover, their reserve is also limited. So it is necessary to use them rationally and judiciously.
$(7)$ We should be aware before the wastage of energy develops a heavy emergency in the days to come and be ready for its conservation. The minerals should be used only for necessary and inevitable works.
$(8)$ We should accept the idea that the conservation of minerals is one type of saving and so we should conserve the minerals.
