  1. Nalanda University: It is located in Rajgirha in Bihar. It was set up by Sakraditya in 5th century, during the reign of Kumargupta-I, son of Vikramaditya. It was continued up to 12th century AD and destroyed by a general of Mohammad Ghori.
  2. Taxila university: It is situated 50 km. away from Rawalpindi. This oldest university imported education in religious subjects. The subjects also included astronomy, surgery, astrology, law archery accountancy, and commerce. The famous teacher, Chanakya was also there in Mauryan period.
