Question
Write the following squares of binomials as trinomials:
$\left(x^2-a y\right)^2$
✓
Answer
We will use the identities $(a+b)^2=a^2+2 a b+b^2$ and $(a-b)^2=a^2-2 a b+b^2$ to convert the squares of binomials as trinomials.
$\left(x^2-a y\right)^2$
$=\left(x^2\right)^2-2 x^2(a y)+(a y)^2$
$=x^4-2 x^2 a y+a^2 y^2$
