Question 12 Marks
Read the following text and answer the following questions on the basis of the same:
Researchers have found a strong correction between attendance for school and academic performance and success. Children that miss school frequently often fall behind-both academically as well as professionally. Absence from school is often the biggest single cause of poor performance and achievement. As a parent, it is crucial to convey the importance of regular attendance to our child and how missing out can damage their future. The table given below shows the daily attendance in thousands at a certain school over a period of two weeks:
Week 1:52486468527072
Week 2:55476165587581
Q. 1. Calculate seven days moving averages.
Q. 2. Draw the graphs for moving averages.

Question 42 Marks
Write down the models of Time Series Analysis.
Answer
There are two models of time series analysis
(i) Additive model: This model is based on the assumption that the sum of four components is squal to the original value.
i.e, O = T + C + S + I
where, T = , C = cyclical, S = seasonal, l = irregular, o = original
(ii) Multiplicative model: In this model four components have a multiplication relationship,, so $O = T \times C \times S \times I$

Question 52 Marks
Define secular trend and seasonal variations.
Answer
Secular Trend: It is a general tendency, of time series to increase or decrease or stagnates during a long period of time. An upward tendency is usually observed in the population of a country, production, sales, prices in industries, the income of individuals etc., A downward tendency is observed in deaths, epidemics, prices of electronic gadgets, water sources, mortality rate etc.
Seasonal Variations: Seasonal variations refer to the changes that take place due to the rhythmic forces which operate in a regular and periodic manner. These forces usually have the same or most similar pattern year after year. When we record data weekly, monthly or quarterly, we can see and calculate seasonal variations. Thus, when a time series consists of data only based on annual figures, there will be seen no seasonal variations. These variations may be due to seasons, weather conditions, habits, customs or traditions. For example, selling of umbrellas and raincoats in the rainy season, sales of cold drinks in the summer season, crackers in Deepawali season, purchase of dresses in a festival season, sugarcane in Pongal season.

Question 62 Marks
What is the need for studying time series?
Answer
We should study time series for the following reasons:
(i) It helps in the analysis of past behaviour.
(ii) It helps in forecasting and for future plans.
(iii) It helps in the evaluation of current achievements.
(iv) It helps in making comparative studies between one time period and others.
Therefore time series helps us to study and analyse the time-related data which involves in business fields, economics, industries, etc.

State the two normal equations used in fitting a straight line.
Answer
The normal equations used in fitting a straight line are
$\Sigma Y =n a t+b \Sigma X$ and $\Sigma XY =a \Sigma XX +b \Sigma X ^2$
where, number of years given in the data,
X = time
Y actual value
a, b = constants

Question 112 Marks
State the uses of time series.
Answer
A time-series carries profound importance in business and policy planning. It is used to compare the current trends with that in the past or the expected trends. Thus it gives a clear picture of growth or downfall. Most of the time series data related to fields like Economics, Business, Commerce etc. For example the production of a product, cost of a product, sales of a product, national income, salary of an individual etc. By close observation of time series data, one can predict and plan for future operations in industries and other fields.
