The increasing use of TV viewing, video games, mobile phone games, is a source of distraction. Children prefer these over reading novels or story books which offer a world of beauty and imagination. Write a letter in about 150-200 words to your younger brother/sister telling him her about the necessity of reading books rather than viewing TV/games, as you have re-discovered this in your hostel. Dear Ravi Reema
I hope everything is fine at your end. In this letter, I'm going to tell you about a brand- new discovery I made while staying at a hostel. It is true that reading books is much more important than watching TV or playing video games. I previously discovered that TV, video games, and mobile phone games gave us a lot of amusement. But as I become older. I realise that they only offer momentary entertainment. We believe that reading quality literature is more essential than pursuing higher education. Books are a priceless source of education, enduring enjoyment, and sweet solace because they help us imagine and create beautiful and wonderful worlds.
We don't necessarily become philosophers, but we do learn things by reading books. It is crucial for leading a fulfilling life. The value of life that may be found by reading excellent books makes TV, video games, and mobile phone games seem inconsequential. So books make excellent instructors. With time, the view they provide gets richer and richer. Books cannot pretend to be false. They are one's closest pals and are consistently modern and daring. Strong men have traditionally been avid readers.
So I suggest you limit your time spent watching TV and playing video games. Read good literature instead and savour the worlds they create. I'm hoping they'll bring you a lot of joy.
With best wishes
Yours affectionately
Aman/Anita

• Grades have cut down narrow competition.

My dear Mansi
I hope everything is fine at your end. I am very glad to write this letter about the new system of CBSE in class IX. We all have a good experience with this system. The only regret is that we didn't have it earlier. I am sharing my experiences in this letter. Initially, we were very doubtful and afraid about the CBSE syllabus. In fact, we were terrified. But as we started going ahead with it we found it really interesting and tension- free. It needs only to study regularly and with full participation in class-level activities. What a nice thing to enact different characters of the Fiction! I enjoyed acting as Private Quelch in the class. Due to the interest-creating aspects of this system, class attendance improved. Classes became more fun-filled and enjoyable.
We no longer have to study till the wee hours of the morning before exams. No stress, no nights of insomnia. Exams using paper and pencil no longer determine our fate. Throughout the year, our participation, focus, and involvement in numerous events are evaluated. Our latent skills can be expressed and displayed thanks to this technology. This way we can build our own careers. Through this system, the grades given to us do not build narrow competition. I am sure you'll also enjoy this CBSE revamped syllabus fully.
Yours sincerely
Poonam

Dear Aunty

You will be glad to know that I have been chosen for a special prize at the Annual Prize Day Ceremony of our school, which will be held on 20th April, Saturday. It is a rare honour to be chosen for this category, as there were so many contestants for this. The school Principal considered my name as I was one of the best students in bringing name and fame to the school by bringing lots of medals in Taekwondo tournament held at National levels, in the last three years. I am the one who has brought 1 gold medal and 2 silver medals in inter-school competitions till now. I was chosen for this prize as my contribution to the school was considered matchless.

The judges had termed my performance as unparalleled. The school authorities had no option but to consider my name above all. You will be happy to know that I will be awarded a cash prize of ₹ 10,000/-, a certificate and a trophy. I wish you could join me in the award winning ceremony, and feel proud that your nephew is doing his best. Please give my kind regards to uncle and love to Raj and Ravi.

Dear Chandni

Hope your trip to Hong Kong was full of fun. While you were away on your vacation, our school celebrated 14th November Childrens’ Day as a school fete. All the children along with their class- teachers were very excited. We started planning about one week in advance. Each section of the class had to plan out one food stall and one game stall. This way, from classes Nursery to XII, all had to compulsorily participate in the fete. The active children of our class were given duties at the stalls. Our class-teacher, Juhi ma’am, decided to keep the Lucky draw and Bhelpuri stall. For Bhelpuri, boys had to bring Murmura and green chutney and girls were asked to bring boiled potatoes, tomatoes and onions cut from home and also chaat masala. Juhi ma’am taught us how to make Bhelpuri in our S.U.P. W. period well in advance.

And for the lucky draw, we collected ₹ 20/- per member and wrote their nanjes, phone number along with their addresses. We had planned 3 gift hampers containing lots of cold drink cans, wafer biscuits, chocolates, juices, chips, kurkure etc. Each hamper had ₹ 1,000/- worth items. The lucky draw was taken out towards the end of the day. Juhi ma’am made me the cashier to collect money for the lucky draw. I had collected nearly ₹ 10,600/- and our Bhelpuri stall was also a great success. We were selling each plate for ₹ 10/-. This Wily we made a collection of ₹ 5,400/- from Bhelpur I too. Overall, we collected ₹ 16,000/- the highest among all sections. This amount was then kept for the donation to Shishu Bhawan, for a good cause. I wish you were here. We all enjoyed a lot on that busy day, playing a lot of games and eating lots of food. I m issed you a lot. Hoping to see you soon.

Yours lovingly
Isha

Dear Grandma

Hope this letter of mine will find you in good health and happiness.

Today I am writing this letter to you because I am very happy and I want to share my feelings with you. Last week, we had an Inter-School Dance competition in our school auditorium. Nearly 20 schools of Ajmer participated in it. To tell you the truth, I was one of the members of the organising committee. I was the main choreographer of our school’s welcome dance and two other dances. After all the performances were done by all 20 different schools, when the results were declared, my choreographed ‘Welcome Dance’ came first. I was really excited. Next morning at the school assembly, my Principal congratulated and praised me and my other committee members for our wonderful performance. We all were awarded with certificates and medals and Principal sir assured us that we will be given some gifts.

Grandma just imagine, how one feels when praised and recognised in front of the whole school in assembly. It was a time of pride and appreciation. My Principal’s words are just echoing in my ears calling out my name. Grandma, I want to dedicate and share this success with you, because you are my true inspiration. You are a good dancer yourself and you also encouraged me to learn dancing.

Thank you grandma, I love you.
Yours lovingly

Dear Uncle

Thank you for your letter. I was glad to read that you have offered to get me a pet for my birthday. Uncle, thank-you very much for your loving concern. Uncle before you buy any pet for me, May I please recommend you a pet of my choice?

Uncle,! would love to have a dog as my pet, as most of my friends have them. Secondly, uncle as you know my father is always on a touring job, so only we two kids and mom are left all alone at home, which is quite risky. And, moreover our house remains almost vacant when Papa goes on tour, Mamma to her teaching job and Kajal and I go to school. Nowadays, in our locality lot of burglaries are taking place during the daytime. In that case, if we have a dog or a small puppy, it will guard our house in our absence. And uncle, don’t worry, I will personally take care of it properly. I will feed it, bathe it, and take it out for walks in the evenings. We will treat it as a family member.

Moreover, before receiving your letter, we were insisting mom that we should buy a dog. Please, all of you join me on my birthday on coming Sunday. We all want to spend time with you all.

Regards to you and Aunty and love to Neeru and Vinay.

Yours lovingly
Akash

Dear Rashi

Hope you are feeling better now. It’s nearly 10 days you haven’t been to school. During these days, you missed a chance of inter-school drama competition, which took place in our school auditorium on 16th Feb. Nearly six top schools of Agra took part in it. E-lindi film actor Mr. Amol Palekar was the chief- guest from Mumbai. Three dramas in English and three dramas in Hindi were played altogether. Each school was given one drama to play. Our school had to act on Shakespeare play, “The Merchant of Venice”. I was lucky enough I got the role of Portia the main character. Suresh acted as Antonio, Rahul acted as Bassanio and the top negative character of Shylock was acted by Jeetu. Only the court scene was acted. Our English teacher, Mr. Ramnath Prabhakar, deserves all the credit for the success of the play. He worked nearly 6 – 8 hours every day to practice the scene along with dialogues with each one of us. We also went to sir’s house to practice in the evenings.

My role of Portia was highly appreciated specially the dialogues on, “Mercy”. People applauded a lot. But the greatest news is that our school won the competition. I got the award for the best actress from Mr. Amol Palekar, a trophy and a certificate, which I will show you once you are back to school. I wish you were there at that very moment. Give my regards to uncle and aunty and love to Ananya. Waiting to see you in the school soon.

Yours lovingly,
Prerna.
