Rakesh Sharma was the first Indian to fly into space. He was born on January $13, 1949$ in Patiala, Punjab. He was a Squadron Leader with the Indian Air Force. He joined two other Soviet cosmonauts aboard the Soyuz $T-11$ spacecraft which was sent off into space on April $2, 1984$. Sharma was $35$ years old. He spent $7$ days, $21$ hours and $40$ minutes in space. While Rakesh was in space, he was asked by the Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, "How does India look from space?" Rakesh replied, "Saare Jahan Se Achcha Hindustan Hamara." Rakesh Sharma was awarded the Hero of Soviet Union award on his return from space. The Government of India honoured him with the Ashok Chakra.

Once Meenaldevi was going on a pilgrimage to Somnath. Some sadhus met her on the way. They bowed down to her to show respect. They stood in front of her with folded hands and told her, "Ranima, we are poor sadhus. We were on our way to Somnath. Some soldiers stopped us from going further and asked for the tax.
