Hi, how are you? I hope you are enjoying your funniest days of Diwali vacation. We all are fine here and enjoying the best time of the life.
As you know that the Diwali festival is very near and we celebrate this festival with firing the crackers and lightening the lamps. Nowadays the fire-crackers are very costly and so they go for the cheapest fire-crackers made in china. The Chinese crackers are very dangerous to health and very risky also as they fire quickly. It is therefore advisable to avoid buying the Chinese crackers and have a safe Diwali for you as well as for others. We are very sure that you must be knowing this fact yet I thought to draw your attention before buying the crackers.
Take care of yourself and give my regards to your Mom and Daddy. We wish you and your family very happy and safe Diwali.

I was very glad to receive your letter yesterday. I am quite well here and hope that you are all well there.
I am preparing for my annual examination and I hope to secure good marks. Our school has arranged a tour to North India ‘during the vacation. I desire to join this tour.

I have not seen any place in North India. Some of my dear friends have already got their names registered. We will visit Delhi, Agra, Mathura and many other places of historical importance. Our history teacher will accompany us.
Kindly allow me to join the tour. I have to pay a deposit of ₹ 100/- within a week and the remaining amount of ₹ 600/- in a fortnight. Please send me the money for the tour.

One of my classmates Nilesh is a bright student. He always tops the list of successful students. He corners from a poor family. His father is a retired clerk and finds it difficult to make both ends meet. Nilesh has to pay his fees and buy some ^ books. But he finds it nearly impossible to cope up with this expense.

I earnestly request you to help him and arrange to send him ₹ 200/- to me. I will help him in paying fees. He is a good friend of mine and I feel that we should help him. Kindly consider my request and send me the amount. My regards to my mother and brother. Your loving son,

Subject: Stray cattle nuisance
You must be aware of the recent accidents in the city on account of cattle obstructing the roads and the vehicular traffic. This is all because the cattle owners letting loose their? cows on the roads.

It is a common sight cows squatting on the roads creating obstruction to the flow of traffic. Recently, a scooterist was fatally injured as he was knocked down by a cow and today he is lying in hospital with a fractured leg. There is none to take the responsibility. Although he was not in the wrong still he is penalised. In another incident, a car going smoothly had a mishap, a cow suddenly came in front of the vehicle just from nowhere and was hurt a little.

Soon a crowd gathered and the car owner was forced to pay a thousand rupees as compensation. Isn’t it the responsibility of the municipal authorities and their subordinate staff to remove the stray cattle and allow a continuous flow of safe traffic? The negligent cattle owners should be brought to book and heavily penalised 80
that the motorists are safe.

I request the city fathers to take up the matter urgently. I hope this letter, through wide circulation of your newspaper would open the eyes of the concerned authorities and complete them to take prompt action to let the people breathe a sigh of relief by doing away with the nuisance.

Subject: Suggestions for the improvement of the school canteen

Respected Sir,
I am writing this letter on behalf of all the students of our school. It pains me to draw your attention to the pathetic condition of the school canteen. The manager is absolutely careless about sanitation and hygiene. The floor remains -unwashed for days and the foodstuff is exposed to flies- most of the time. A regular clean-up with phenol is necessary to improve the sanitary condition of the canteen. Besides, we have seen the cook using sub-standard, unhygienic oil for cooking. Very often, previously used oil is reused to cook the next day’s food.
A strict warning from you on this score could persuade the canteen contractor not to be stingy and careless at the cost of the health of the students. Sir, we also request you to persuade the contractor to reduce the cost of the food items in order to suit our pockets. We are sure that you will personally look into the matter and set things right soon.

Subject: Nuisance of hawkers

Sir,

A number of hawkers cluster near our school premises and sell eatables to students, particularly during recess time. The eatables are kept in an unhygienic condition. Students buy them and fall sick.

Nobody can check this nuisance. Same is the case with other schools. Hawkers tempt students to buy things from them. I hope this nuisance will be stopped by authorities. Public should be made aware of this nuisance.

Subject: Noise nuisance during festivals
Sir,

Ours is a secular country and there can be no objection to any community celebrating? its festivals publicly. But of late, the celebrations have become more and more noisy. There is more of noise and less of festivity. From every /street corner, loudspeakers pour out cheap film music and dialogues at full pitch from early morning till late in the night. The air is rent with the deafening noise of crackers during these festival days.

Apart from the fact that the noise robs ones of one’s most precious and well-earned rest, it scares young babies, animals and birds. It sends up the palpitation rates of heart patients and of l those suffering from high blood pressure and particularly the senior citizens.

On behalf of the peace-loving citizens of Bodakdev, I appeal to you to take appropriate steps to ban the use of loudspeakers and noise-making crackers during the festivals, and to see to it that the noise is kept to the minimum possible level, particularly during nights.

Happy to learn from your letter that this time you have invited your cousins to celebrate Diwali at your place. It would be a very nice time together. I wish you a very happy Diwali.

But I would also like to draw your attention to a very serious matter. Generally, most of the firecrackers available in the market are Chinese.They are substandard as far the quality is concerned. They may burst or fire any time anywhere beyond your expectation and can cause a great harm, so avoid buying them however, cheap they are available in the market. Otherwise, also you know it very well that how harmful it is to firecrackers. They cause a great deal of air and sound pollution.The sulpher bursting in air is poisonous. We breathe in this air and our lungs get damaged. The terrible sound with more than 100 decibels can sometimes cause permanent deafness. If a person does not become deaf, the high pitch sounds can get on persons’ nerves.

With this perspective on my mind, I would strongly appeal to you not to firecrackers this Diwali. There are many other ways of celebration. I hope you will get my point and have a safe and pleasant Diwali.
