Vertical distribution of temperature
Answer
View full question & answer→The temperature gradually decreases from the equator to both poles.
At the equator the sun's rays always fall in a vertical direction.
So the temperature there is always high.
The rays from the equator to the poles have to pass through more layers of the atmosphere.
As a result their heat decreases.
The Sun's rays are perpendicular to the Tropic of Cancer in June and the Tropic of Capricorn in December.
So these ions have the highest temperatures in months.
The polar regions i.e. the Arctic and Antarctica have more diagonal sun rays.
So the temperature stays the lowest there.
Thus, a change in temperature is felt according to latitude.
