Question 25 Marks
Write a newspaper article on ‘Women Empowerment’.
Answer
Women Empowerment

From ancient times women have been considered inferior to men. They lived a subordinate life totally dependent on men. A woman’s place was in the home doing household work while men had more freedom. House-work is a non-paying activity so an earning man was considered superior to a woman.

With the passage of time it became necessary for women to enact dual roles of bread earner and home-maker. Today women command respect and have done well in all fields of life. They have scaled new heights whether it is science and technology, business, engineering, space science, office, medicine, mountaineering, sports or others.

If a woman is educated her wards will be educated and if she is illiterate her family will suffer.

In the field of education the girls have done better than boys. No longer are women the ‘weaker sex’. They dominate most walks of life and occupy top most positions.

What they require from the government is support in the form of security and equality. Then they will be able to do well and play a major role in the progress of the country.

It is rightly said, ‘The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.’

Question 35 Marks
Write a newspaper article on ‘The Problem of Brain Drain’.
Answer
The Problem of Brain Drain

Migration of people from home country to work and live in another country is called ‘Brain Drain,’ Every country strives at giving good education to its students with the hope that when they start working they will pay back the country and it will reap from what it has invested into them. The sad fact is that as soon as students get their professional qualifications, they prefer to look out for a job abroad. India has a severe problem of ‘Brain Drain’. Migration to other countries stems from economic motivation and better job opportunities. Countries abroad appear like greener pastures. Educated people are lured to foreign countries because of better facilities for further research and they get attracted to the recognition they get from people abroad. Even average people with no skill prefer to do blue collar jobs abroad because they earn in dollars and pounds. This problem however, is not very serious now, considering the population explosion in our country, the government is happy that people are getting jobs elsewhere so that unemployment decreases in the country. Also there is a hope that they will invest their savings in the country and help its economy.

Answer
Terrorism

We are very young and looking forward to a good, healthy and peaceful life on this earth. When we watch news and listen to our parent talking, we get scared that there are terrorists in the world who kill people and destroy things through violence. They are found in almost every country of the world.

I wonder how these people went on to become bad people. How can they kill others and cause pain to others? Today we are told by our parents not to talk to strangers and not to go to places which are crowded. We live in a fear filled world. People are afraid to travel by bus, train or plane. When I asked my parents who are these terrorists? They told me that they are people like us but don’t want to live like us. They have been shown a wrong path and they follow it blindly. We need to strongly change such people and make this world a better place to live. The government should take strong action against such people who kill and do violence. We too should not be scared of them but face them bravely and make them leave their bad ways.

Question 65 Marks
Write a newspaper article on ‘Fashion’.
Answer
Fashion

The word fashion relates to the way people dress, speak and behave. In today’s world we find that publicity and advertisements play an important role in making people follow a certain type of fashion. There are some people whom everyone copies because what they wear becomes a style statement.

We cannot just say that modern people believe in fashion. Even during the freedom Struggle, the Indian people liked to wear Khadi and speak in their local language.

Today people copy the West. Indians prefer to wear clothes which are western, speak English and eat foreign type of food. Fashion is never permanent.

It changes with time and may even come back again. Today if we don’t follow fashion we may look out- dated or left out. Fashion has wrongly created two groups -the haves and the have not. The youth of today are absolutely crazy about fashion and would like to buy things even if they cannot afford them. We must create our own fashion which is comfortable, suitable, eco-friendly and affordable.

Question 75 Marks
Write a newspaper article on ‘Price rise’.
Answer
Price rise

Price rise means increase in the cost of living. This situation arises because the population increases and there isn’t enough for everyone. Price rise is a manmade problem. As the income of the people increases, their demand for things also increases. The cost of all the items keeps increasing.

Producers of goods and services are interested in more profits so they increase the price. For example a farmer increases the price of his food crop, while a mill owner increases the price of the cloth he makes.

Price rise has also increased in India because of increase in the price of fuel products for transportation and running of machinery. When the price increases, the rich people are not much affected. Only the poor and middle class suffer due to price rise.

From the time our country became free from British rule we have not been able to control price rise. If prices are controlled, people can buy more things with their income and can lead a happy and satisfied life. The government must work to bring down the prices in the country.

Question 85 Marks
Write a newspaper article on ‘Child labor’.
Answer
Child labor

Children are the future of the country. Every country should see that each child develops and helps the country to progress. However, today we find many children not going to school but working to add to their family Income.

People make small children work because they don’t have to pay them more money. The children are even forced by their parents to work. Child labor is very shameful. So many children work in cracker factories and die early because the harmful material used in crackers gets into their bodies. Many children are brought forcibly from far off villages to work in the cities. They are made to stay in small rooms and are not given proper food and facilities.

It is not legal to make small children work because they need to go to school and study. In India, it is compulsory for a child of 6-14 years to go to school. The children who spend their life working have never enjoyed their childhood.

They have not received the love and care of their parents. Such children will become misfits and even take to crime. Child labor should be stopped completely and the government should take strict action and punish those who make small children labor.

Question 94 Marks
You are the editor of a well-known magazine. Write an article in about 100 to 125 words on the topic A bad workman always blames his tools.
Answer

A Bad Workman Always Blames His Tools

The proverb "A bad workman always blames his tools" highlights the tendency of individuals to shift responsibility for their failures onto external factors rather than acknowledging their own shortcomings. It reflects the idea that those who lack skill or diligence often find excuses, blaming the equipment or circumstances. This mindset not only prevents personal growth but also fosters a culture of complacency. True craftsmen, on the other hand, take ownership of their mistakes and work towards improving their techniques. No tool can compensate for a lack of dedication or effort. Success comes not from relying on external aids but from honing one's abilities, learning from mistakes, and showing resilience. Embracing responsibility is the key to achieving mastery in any field.
