Respected Principal Sir, teachers and my dear friends. Good morning I am Amit Tandon from XI C and I am going to speak on the topic ‘Child Labour.’

Children are the future of the country. Every country should see that each child develops and helps the country to progress. However, today we find many children not going to school but working to add to the family income. People make small children work because they don’t have to pay them more money. The children are even forced by their parents to work. Child labour is very shameful.

So many children work in cracker factories and die early because the harmful material used in crackers get into their bodies. Many children are brought forcibly from far off villages to work in the cities. They are made to stay in small rooms and are not given proper food and facilities.

It is not legal to make small children work because they need to go to school and study. In India it is compulsory for a child of 6 - 14 years to go to school. The children who spend their life working have never enjoyed their childhood.

They have not received the love and care of parents. Such children will become misfits and even take to crime. Child labour should be stopped completely and the government should take strict action and punish those who make small children labour. I sincerely hope this problem is solved to let all children enjoy their childhood. Thank you.
 

Good morning respected Madam and my dear friends. Today the 27th of September is World Tourism Day and I am going to speak on the topic ‘Travelling as a means of Education’.

Travelling is a passion and hobby. Travelling broadens one’s outlook and introduces us to different places, people, cultures, foods and drinks. Nature has blessed regions with different landscapes and cultures. There are different places where we can travel to- sea beaches, mountainous places, desert areas, plains, country side, posh cities and places of historical monuments. People travel for different reasons- work, rest, change of routine, family get- together. Travelling for work can be a pleasure and a pain- but a new place should be taken for what it is and enjoyed in that manner. It can also be made into a happy blend of work and change. Historical places help us go back in time. Seaside places have their own joy as they bring in the goodness of the waters, pure air for breathing, scuba diving, surfing, boating, swimming, walking along the beach and playing with the sand. Mountainous places provide us pure air and closeness to nature. Desert landscapes are also beautiful, with their sand dunes, traditional dances and food. Travelling can be entertaining and informative. Everyone must make travelling a hobby and enjoy it for life.

Corruption means doing something illegal and not acceptable to the society. This could be giving or accepting a bribe, cheating or defrauding. It exists because people support it. They may not participate in it but they will not raise their voice against it so it continues to exist.

Corruption exists in business, education, government offices and even in social institutions. In the present competitive times, people resort to bribes and feel no qualms about indulging in them. Government workers think they do a favour to people by getting their contract papers signed from the main officers so they need to take extra money for that.

When you have power and clout, the people are willing to pay you extra to get their work done out of turn so the level of corruption rises. The level of corruption is very high in India and it is a known fact that cleaning the system is like cleaning the Ganges. It can be removed only with people’s support and help. The honest should be rewarded and the dishonest need to be punished and made aware of their shortcomings. We need dedicated and honest people to clean up the system. Corruption is a blot on the society.

Respected teachers and my dear friends, I am Kusum Joshi of standard XI- A and I am going to speak on the topic ‘Humanity above all Nations’.


God is the potter, the earth is his wheel and all human beings are the pots he has made. We are made out of the same clay but we speak different languages, follow different religions, have different colour of skin and live in different regions. All people are allied by birth. We breathe the same air, enjoy the same sunshine. We have the same type of bodies and do almost the same kind of work. Many are not ready to accept this fact. The world has seen two horrible World Wars. Nations have attacked one another and have brought about destruction to life and property. Scientific inventions have brought in deadly weapons which have brought humanity to drifting dust. Inspite of all these, whenever there have been disasters both natural and man- made people have come to help one another. Nature considers everyone as equal and gives us the right to enjoy her benefits. It is we humans who have created divisions. We need to amend attitude. We need to rise above petty issues and honour and respect everyone around us if we want to command that same respect. Humanity is what is important than all materialistic things in this world.

Respected teachers and my dear friends I am Ankur Patil of standard XI - A. I wish you all a very happy Independence Day and today I am going to speak on the topic ‘Unity in Diversity’ Our holy books have always pointed out the need for unity and peace among people.

The world is a big family because we are all brothers and sisters allied by birth.

We all come from the same father but we are born in different regions, have same type of anatomy but differ in looks, foods habits, languages yet we are not foreigners or strangers to one another.

The world has witnessed two World Wars, where man has killed man. It is quite shameful when members of the same house (world) fight with each other. Every region receives the same sunlight, rain, wind and air. Most of the regions carry out the same occupations like agriculture, industry and service sectors.

Our late President Dr. Radhakrishnan has rightly pointed out, “We need to rise above narrow mindedness to think of ourselves not just as citizens of a city, state, country but of the entire world.” The feeling should be taught to every child so that when they grow up the feeling of being a world citizen is ingrained in them. This sentiment will also ensure peace and stop all evils like terrorism, wars and corruption from the world. We should never think of ourselves as a Gujarati or Indian but as a world citizen.

Respected teachers and my dear friends, I am Alka Patel of standard XI- E and I am going to speak on the topic ‘An average child is nobody’s child.’

In today’s competitive world, the average child is actually handicapped and under equipped to handle himself and thus becomes a misfit. When parents have not been able to fulfil their aspiration, they push their wards to see their wishes being fulfilled through their children All children are not the same. Some may be bright in studies but may not do well in sports and vice versa. We need to understand what a child likes to do and then encourage him to do well; Every child cannot get the first position. When a child is average, even the parents give up on him and feel that they have given birth to a weakling.

If a child does well the parents will encourage him, spend more time with him and even ignore the others, even teachers ignore average children. Some classes specifically take students only on merit. What will happen to children who are counted as less worthy in the eyes of society?

However, society has proof that such average children do excel in their lives. Take the case of Einstein, he was an average student in class, yet he went on to become a great scientist. No one is average, all are special!

Respected teachers and my dear friends, I am Ayesha Mansuri of standard XI - A and I am going to speak on the topic ‘Save Water’

We cannot live without water. About 70% of our body is made up of water. The earth is a blue planet but most of the water is in the sea and it is salty so we cannot use it for drinking, house work, factories and farms. When the sun shines the water vapour goes up, forms clouds and comes down as rain. This rain then fills up the lakes, rivers, ponds and seas. We do not look after this beautiful gift of nature. We dirty and pollute the water by throwing sewage and harmful chemicals in it. Most of the factories throw their waste into the rivers.

People also waste a lot of water. There is very little fresh water in the world. We should not waste water. We should use only as much as we need. We should not let our taps remain open when we don’t need water. The drinking water pipes and drainage pipes should not mix up with one another. We should reuse water like when we clean our cars and houses we should not throw away the water in the gutters but give it to the plants. Save water - it is a scarce resource and every drop is precious.

Animals are a part of the environment and are better called the ‘fauna’. Man should have an affinity with animals to maintain the ecological balance. We should treat animals as our friends.

Man for his selfish purpose ill-treats and kills them though they provide him with milk, meat, leather, dung for manure and also work as beasts of burden.

Pet animals are good company and very faithful. They need to be brought up as members of the family. Animals working in the circus are kept in cages and are ill-treated. When milch animals are not able to give milk they are abandoned by their owners. Such animals die in road accidents or fall sick after consuming toxic waste. The number of tigers, elephants and whales has decreased because men hunt them recklessly. Oil sleeks in water bodies destroys marine life. Many people kill animals just for the joy of hunting. A balance of herbivorous and carnivorous animals is required for environmental preservation. Hunting of endangered species needs to be curbed. People especially students need to be aware and come forward to maintain an ecological balance. We share the earth with them so we should live and let them live too.

Respected teachers and my dear friends, I am Aditya Dave – of standard XI – C and I am going to speak on the topic ‘Hemets - A help or nuisance’

Helmets are needed for two wheeler riders and pillion riders. In modern times with the problem of heavy traffic and lack of parking facilities, people find it convenient to use two wheelers. With the growing number of accidents the government has passed a law for compulsory wearing of helmets. The helmets save the delicate brain and avoid serious head injuries.

However, many people find carrying helmets a problem. It becomes a nuisance to carry them at social functions and business meetings.

As there is no strict action taken, many people carry the helmets on their rear view mirrors.

They usually fall off on the road and cause a hazard to moving traffic - as people and vehicles trip on them. Today many people wear caps which look like helmets to get away from fines but what about their safety ? Good helmets are expensive and spurious traders are ruling the roost by manufacturing cheap and unsafe helmets. Such don’t even have the ISI mark.

Helmets should really be made compulsory for all. The need of the day is stringent laws, fines, penalties and support of the People. Do wear helmets while riding your two wheelers, it will protect you !

Respected teachers and my dear friends, I am Altaf Shaikh of standard XI - C and I am going to speak on the topic ‘If trees could speak’.

If trees really could speak they would be the best teachers in the world. They would tell us that the beautiful world we live in is fragile and needs to be taken care of. They would remind us that they form the first link in the food chain and if we don’t respect and take care of them we would be causing an imbalance in the food chain.

They would remind us to maintain a 33% forest cover to save us from global warming. They would go on a strike and not support us with the environmental gifts that they give us like controlling soil erosion, maintaining the humidity and bringing rain.

The leaves would tell us how they love the spring time which helps them grow and how they hate the autumn and winter when they are made to fall off the trees. Trees would hate to tell us that we human beings are their worst enemies. They would insist that we learn to live and let live. This world is not just our own but we co-exist with the other living beings. They also have an equal right to live and enjoy the best of nature.

Uses of Internet
Ladies and gentlemen,
Network was introduced for communication. It was first used in 1960 for defence purposes by the U.S. It was then called Arpa-Net. Later various organizations started using networks. This usage was then called Internet. This was gathered from more than one computer, as termed earlier. LAN, i.e., Local Area Network was one of them. This was followed by MAN, i.e., Metropolitan Area Network. Finally, the area which came under the organization was WAN – Wide Area Network. Combining these Internet was formed.
Rapid growth of Internet took place during the period 1969-2004 on ALOHANET. Now Internet was used for various purposes. Online Assortment of Information could be gathered. Medical guidance could be sought on Internet. One could seek employment. Communication through e-mail video conferencing can be done through Internet. Internet telephone became of common use. Scientists searched for information on planet. This acquired information could be shared. Online training can be given on every topic through Internet. Encyclopaedia can be referred to Online information on railway and airline schedules can be procured. In short information on every imaginable subject can be got through Internet.
It is sad that the Internet has also got its limitations. Lot of wrong information can be posted. It could all be garbage. Addiction to the Internet can cause problems. Lot of time is wasted on useless projects. There are certain sites where cheating takes place. People take advantage of an unscrupulous business that has sprung up on the Internet. Hackers can create virus and hack your personal computers to gain access to your private and confidential information.
In spite of the misuse, Internet has proved very helpful in all fields of knowledge.

Job Oriented Education
Ladies and gentlemen,
The percentage of literacy in India in the past was very less. Leaders at national level felt that standard of literacy should be enhanced at any rate. The standard of literacy did increase but the number of literate unemployed also increased. In the absence of career, counselling unemployment increased.
Today the situation is different. There is scarcity of job opportunity. Lack of job oriented education is improper career guidance. Learning based on career counselling is most important part of education. To pursue the most appropriate course is very essential. The opportunities of job opening in various streams such as commerce, science, arts, etc. are to be studied and then the students should opt for the streams most suitable to them.
The government education department should take a serious view of this and should provide more career-guiding centres for students. The Non-Government Organizations should come forward to help the students to pursue a bright and paying career.

Rapport Between Teacher and the Taught
Ladies and gentlemen,
It has always been a serious problem that teachers and students have been unable to understand each other. As a result, the progress of students has been hindered. The progress of students can be enhanced only if teachers come to know about the environment in which they grow.
Family background plays a vital role in the development of a student’s character, i.e., all-round development. Proper guidance is very essential. In the event a of improper guidance the students will face chaos. How can a teacher know what is proper for a particular student. Every student has to be dealt in a different way. This does not mean that discrimination should be shown. On the contrary, discretion should be used while dealing with students.
Whatever the situation may be the concept of ‘Problem Child’ does not exist anymore, as such we must consider that every child is a prized child. A teacher has to channelize his/her energies in a manner which will be beneficial to the student. Teachers should prove themselves to be good role models as career of students is in their hands. If the teacher strives to bring about progress of students then eventually the nation will progress.

Coaching Classes – Advantages and Disadvantages
Ladies and gentlemen, It is a modern trend that students join the coaching classes. If some students do not join the classes, then others look at them with a negative view. On the other hand, there are students who feel that they can stay away from school when they attend the classes. Good number of teachers put in more efforts in their classes. Certain students neglect schools as their teachers in the schools are not strict enough to compel them for the fear that they may lose their tuition.
Tuition classes charge exorbitant fees promising the students that with their coaching they would score very good marks in the board exams. Some teachers in their classes work hard, while others promise to work hard.
Whatever the case may be tuitions do help the students to work hard. At the same time, school teachers try their level best in the school to give the students whatever they can. Ultimately it is the students’ responsibility to score good marks in the board examinations.

Conservation of Forest
Ladies and gentlemen,
Forests play a significant role in the life of people. They are the foundation of our economy. The forests are highly useful to us. Their destruction would affect the nation adversely. A large portion of our population lives in rural areas. Most of natural resources are sought in the forests.
The green leaves and grass provide fodder for the animals. The dung is used as fertilizer for the croplands. Domestic cooking fuel is procured from dry twigs and branches. We get a large supply of fruits, edible nuts, fibres and herbs for local consumption. The lashing of the seasonal rainfall is controlled providing springs and everflowing streams during summer months.
Large areas of forests are getting destroyed. Areas of degraded forests are not being reafforested. There is now a severe scarcity of animal fodder and domestic fuel, and acute water shortage. The inhabitants of these areas have started campaigns to protect forests. The Chipko Movement is one of them.
Conservation of forests is our moral duty. The constitution also supports this. The conservation will improve forests, lakes, wildlife and environment. We as citizens of India should fully support conservation of forests for the betterment of our nation.

Yoga for Health
Ladies and gentlemen,
One of the most ancient sciences practised in India is Yoga. It has given us various techniques to bring about the development of physical, mental and spiritual powers. It is an age-old science bringing about basic transformation in man.
Yoga is a complete exercise providing physical, mental and spiritual benefits. Various exercises are practised to benefit joints, ligaments and skeletal systems improving its flexibility and balance.
The body remains healthy if the digestive system remains healthy along with nervous and respiratory systems. Yogic exercises strengthen the heart and smoothen the circulatory system. It strengthens the functioning of glands reducing tension and anxiety. This helps to remove insomnia.
Thus Yoga is very useful for healthy living. Practice of Yoga is a must for every individual.

Corruption
Ladies and gentlemen,
India has always been proud of its moral and spiritual heritage. We often swear by the values of honesty and selfless service. But it is ironical that we are considered among the topmost nations of the world where corruption has entered every field.
The evil of corruption is seen in social, political, economic and also religious spheres. We are required to pay extra money in order to get our rights like ration card, driving licence or death certificates. Corruption has entered even the teaching and medical profession. Marks and even degrees are sold. Some doctors sell kidneys.
It is easy to find the causes of corruption. Politicians lack in the spirit of service. They work for personal gains. They lack ideas. Common man suffers the most. It is very difficult to fight corruption.
Few people wage war against corruption. It proves effective to some extent. We will have to make a united effort. We have to remove corruption at government level. Teachers have to play an important role against corruption. They have to prepare the young generation to build a corruption-free life.

Women Empowerment
Ladies and gentlemen,
Ours is a male-dominated society. Progress of women is neglected. It is taken for granted that women are meant to perform household duties only. Men have advantage over women in almost all fields. But all these arguments prove futile when it comes to providing education to women.
Women are the backbone of the society and as such they cannot be neglected. To educate them is the most important and foremost duty of the society. The idea that women are meant to do only household work is absurd. Educated women will always, prove better mothers and efficient managers of the families.
Bringing up children in the best possible manner is very necessary and for this education of women is essential. Women are capable of receiving the highest form of education. There have been women in the past who have proved to be efficient in fields of literature, science, statesmanship or art.
Physical training for women should not be neglected. It is possible that because of physical weakness women may have to submit to stress and strain. Physical training is, therefore very necessary to strengthen their abilities.
Today women are making great progress in various fields. They should be provided with opportunities where they can come at par with men. In almost all fields today education has helped women to become good statesmen and also has proved to possess better managerial abilities. Education of women should not be neglected. They should be encouraged to scale greater heights.

Helping the Needy
Ladies and gentlemen,
Walking down the streets of the city we come across many people who can be termed as ‘needy’. The human traffickers force certain people to pose as needy. If we want to help the needy we have to first make sure if they are really in need of our help.
We can extend help to orphanages where children who have been cast away at an early age need our help. There are people, who are philanthropic by nature, donate a small percentage of their income to help these institutions. Some organizations help some very poor students providing them with study material. Sponsorship is given to athletes and sportspersons who are talented.
Whatever the case may be what is our duty towards our fellow citizens who are in need of our help? Providence has helped us with our requirements. We should try to help others, providing them with whatever we can. Our help may be a drop in the ocean but definitely, a joint effort will carry many a ship to the coast.

War Against Terrorism
Ladies and gentlemen,
Terrorism is a worldwide phenomenon today. Terrorists are not born they are made. Causes are many. But some causes are common. Sometimes a certain group of people have to face injustice and exploitation for a long time. Such groups after some time retaliate. This retaliation turns out to be terrorism. Some hostile nations are also responsible for terrorist activities.
The 9/11 attack on the twin towers of World Trade Centre is a proof that these groups have made terrorism a worldwide phenomenon. The U.S. had taken action against this. and had eliminated Osama Bin-Laden to curb this activity.
Time and again these groups have attacked various places in India and the world. The bomb attacks in Ahmedabad, Akshardham Temple in Gandhinagar had caused death and destruction.
For a long time the Indian government warned the nations who helped in grooming these terrorists. Ultimately steps were taken to let the terrorists know that India and the whole world is against these activities. Surgical attacks were conducted.
A large number of innocent people are killed by the terrorists for some cause which is not a reality. The world must join hands to wipe out terrorism, which is like a plague spreading everywhere. We have to combat terrorism. If this is done there is some hope to get rid of terrorism.
