The gods requested Lord Shiva to calm down.

When Lord Shiva saw cupid, his fist was extending towards his right eye with bent shoulder and bent left leg. He held the bow which looked in spherical shape and was ready to attack.

After controlling the excitement of his sense organ, in order to know the reason about his strong desire Lord Shiva looked in all the directions.

This arrow created affection in Lord Shiva's mind towards Parvati and he looked on the face of Parvati having red colour lips.

Parvati, with her hands glowing like copper offered a lotus seed rosary from the river Ganga which is dried by the sun's rays to Lord Shiva.

Due to affection towards devotees, the moment the three eyed Lord Shiva was about to accept the garland (offered by Parvati), cupid took aim with an unfailing arrow called. "Sammohan".

When Lord Shiva saw cupid taking aim towards him and disturbing his meditation, he got angry.

When Lord Shiva got angry with cupid, his face looked horrible due to raised eyebrows and from his third eye, he suddenly released fire with its flames rising upward.

भस्मावशेषं मदनं चकार' has been taken from the epic 'कुमारसम्भवम्' composed by the great poet Kalidasa.

The fire released by the third eye of Lord Shiva burnt Kamdev to ashes.
