Maniya kaka's contribution in changing Suryamani's life was very significant. It was as follows:
$(1)$ Suryamani did not want to leave her village and the forest. Maniya kaka explained to her that if she did not study, she would remain hungry. He explained the importance of education to her.
$(2)$ Suryamani believed that the forest would help her to earn her living. To remove this belief, he explained that forests are becoming extinct. We may have to leave forests. So it is necessary to get educated. In this way, he prepared Suryamani to study and get educated.
$(3)$ Kaka tried hard and got admission for Suryamani in the school in Bishanpur. He made arrangements so that they would not have to pay for the fees, the uniforms and the books; and she could stay in the school itself and study.
$(4)$ Due to Maniya kaka's inspiration. Suryamani won a scholarship, passed her $\text{B. A.}$ and went on to achieve great success that changed the direction of her life.

Explain the lottery tradition for farming in Mizoram.

In Mizoram, the land belongs to the whole village, not to separate people. So they take turns to do farming on different parts of the land. For this, there is a special meeting of the Village Council (Panchayat). At the meeting there would be a lottery to decide which family will get how much land for farming. For the lottery. a beautiful pot made of bamboo, in which there is one chit for every family, is shaken well. One chit is taken out by each family. When the work of farming is over, and the people of Mizoram return home with the harvest, the entire village celebrates. People get together to cook, eat, sing and dance. They do their special 'cheraw' dance. In this dance, people sit in pairs in front of one another, holding bamboo sticks on the ground. As the drum beats, the bamboos are beaten on the ground. Dancers step in and out of the bamboo sticks and dance to the beat.
