Question 15 Marks
State the measures for conservation of resources.
Answer
The measures to conserve the resourers are as follows:
$(1)$ The fertility of the soil is reduced due to the soil erosion, so soil erosion should be stopped .
$(2)$ The use of chemical fertilizers in the farms for a longer run reduces the soil So they should be used rationally. If quality possible dung (natural manure) should be used for the nutrition of the soil.
$(3)$ Due to excessive irrigation in the farm the fertility of the oil is reduced. So drip irrigation should be practised.
$(4)$ The soil becomes polluted due to excessive use of pesticides in the crops. So. the use of bio-pesticides should be encouraged as an alternative.
$(5)$ Wildlife is important for the balance of ecosystem. So strict laws should be enacted t prevent their poaching.
$(6)$ Stringent laws should be enacted in the forested area to prevent the activities of animal grazing and deforestation.
$(7)$ Water scarcity can be averted by harvesting the rainwater and by using it during summer.
$(8)$ The water storage can be increased be removing alluvium and silt deposited in the ponds and lakes and deepening them.
$(9) $ Water problem for agriculture can be solved by constructing check dams to consent the rainwater.
$(10)$ If possible, attempts should be made use the recycled water.
$(11)$ Household expenses can be saved preparing a kitchen garden from the domestical used water.
$(12)$ As an alternative to traditionally used energy resources, the use of other energy resources like solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy, geo-thermal energy, etc. should be considered.
$(13)$ Renewable resources must be re-used. Options should be found out for non-renewable resources.

Question 25 Marks
What is an ecosystem ? Explain in detail.
Answer
The biosphere includes living beings like humans, vegetation, animals, insects, etc.. Here any organism survives by interacting with other organism, which is called Ecosystem.
Vegetation provides our manifold needs. It provides natural dwellings and food to animal (fauna) world. The vegetation maintains balance between oxygen and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. It prevents the soil erosion. It conserves the groundwater level. It provides raw material like timber and firewood. paper and matchsticks to various industries. It gives us material like bamboo for cottage industries. Besides. its other secondary products which they give us are edible glue, lacquer (sealing wax), resin. honey, cane, rubber, various fruits, etc. Forests prevent soil erosion caused due to wind and rain.
Forests preserve humidity within the soils and preserve the groundwater. Forests are very useful to control the floods occurring in the rivers.
The wildlife includes various animals, birds and insects. They provide us with meat, hides (skin), skin with fur, wool, etc. Honey bee is also an insect. It plays an important role in pollination of the flowers. Birds eat various insects and thereby control their numbers. Thus every animal, small or large, has a place in the ecosystem.

Question 35 Marks
Describe the types of resources based on their distribution.
Answer
The types of resources based on the as follows: origin (sources) or distribution are as
$(i)$ Ubiquitous (Universal) Resources: This type of resources are available everywhere; e.g the gases useful for the living beings present in the atmosphere, like oxygen and nitrogen.
$(ii)$ Common (Generally Available) Resources: Such resources are generally easily available; e.g.. water, pasture land, etc.
$(iii)$ Rare Resources: Such resources are available only at limited places; e.g. coal, crude oil, natural gas, uranium, various metals, etc.
$(iv)$ Uniquelities (Solitary) Resources: Those Re minerals which are available at one places in the world are known as or two Sum uniquelities Pe resources; e.g. Cryolite. It is obtained from Greenland in Europe only.
Besides the above mentioned types. resources are also divided into two types as Renewable and Non-renewable Resources.$(i)$ Renewable Resources: Those resources which replenish their used share on their own in certain time or which are unlimited are called Renewable Resources'. Trees, birds, animals, sunlight (insolation), wind, etc. are Renewable Resources.$(ii)$ Non-renewable Resources: Those resources which are used once and cannot be re-used or renewed in future are called Non renewable Resources. Coal, crude (mineral) oil, natural gas, nuclear minerals, etc. are Non-renewable Resources.

Question 45 Marks
'It is the duty of all of us to conserve the resources.' - Explain the statement.
Answer
There is an excessive use of due to increasing population and extraordinary development in science and technology, there has been a shortage of certain resources. It will be difficult to maintain today's progress and the modern lifestyle of human in the absence of the resources. It has become inevitable to conserve the resources so that their shortage does not occur in the future. For that, the use of the resources should be well-planned, economical and rational.

Question 55 Marks
'Forests are very useful to us.'- Explain the statement.
Answer
$(1)$ Forests maintain the equilibrium (balance) between oxygen and nitrogen in the atmosphere.
$(2)$ Very strong and durable timber is obtained from the forests.
$(3)$ The wood of some of the trees is used as fuel also.
$(4)$ Forests provide some herbs and raw material for some industries like paper and matchsticks.
$(5)$ They give material like bamboo for some cottage industries.
$(6)$ Some products like edible glue, lacquer, resin, honey, cane, rubber, fruits can be obtained from forests.
$(7)$ Forests are helpful in bringing rain.
$(8)$ They prevent the climate from becoming unfavourable.
$(9)$ They prevent the soil erosion by wind and rain.
$(10)$ They preserve humidity in the soil and conserve the groundwater.
$(11)$ Forests are useful to control the floods occurring in the rivers.
$(12)$ Forests reduce the pollution.
$(13)$ They provide natural habitat and food to fauna (wildlife). Thus, the forests are very useful to us.

Question 75 Marks
Which are the main factors responsible for the water crisis?
Answer
Man has created civilization in the world. So man himself is a powerful resource. He, through his knowledge and skill, uses various natural elements as the resources. Thus a man is both a creator as well as the user of the resources. In this process, man selects the best elements from the natural elements according to his intelligence Man can use natural resources to his best only when he has the proper skill. ability, knowledge or technology. Education and health services make man a special resource That process of making human a resource is called Human Resource Development

Question 95 Marks
Describe the types of resources on the basis of their formation.
Answer
There are mainly two types of resources on the basis of their formation $1)$ Natural Resources and $2)$ Human nade Resources.
$(1)$ Natural Resources: Those resources which are obtained from the nature and which be used without much processing are known as Natural Resources Alt water land m energy resources etc are natural resources All the resources are an invaluable gift by All the elements in the environment that are suitable for human use are natural resources.
$(2)$ Human made Resources: When a human processes change the basic characteristics of the natural elements with the help of his knowledge and skill and modifies to make usable are called 'Human made Resources'. Cement which is made by properly processing the naturally obtained element like lime is called 'Human made Resource Electricity. buildings, roads, bridges, terraced farms, mult purpose projects, tunnels, technology, etc. are Human made Resources.
Humans also change the surface of the earth and uses it to satisfy their requirements. They prepare terraced farms on the slopes of the mountainous regions for the development of griculture. They construct dams in the valley regions of the rivers and plan multi-purpose projects.
