The preservation of peace is not merely a desirable ideal; it has become an imperative necessity. All the nations of the world have pledged their allegiance to peace, but do not seem to be prepared to work for the conditions which are essential for peace. We need to build a world welfare state, where individual freedom and social justice are preserved, where we do not have injustice, racial discrimination and colonial domination. We cannot achieve the goal of peace by bluffing, bargaining and bullying. The two groups into which the world unfortunately, is divided wish to build a social and political order which transcends sovereign nations. Both agree that exclusive nationalism is impracticable in the new world. But the conflicts between the methods adopted by the two groups are potentially violent, dark and destructive. They seem to be afraid of each other and each one thinks that the other is trying to overflow it by force. We are faced with two alternatives: collision which may be suicidal for the human race, or conciliation, which is our hope for the future. We are pledged to the latterQuestions:
$Q.1.$ Why are nations not at peace with one another though they believe in it?
$Q.2.$ What is the meaning of a world welfare state?
$Q.3.$ How do the two groups of the world remain at loggerheads with one another?
$Q.4.$ Which system of peace should we pledge for?

Most people read and hear regularly about the importance of staying healthy and living longer through diet and exercise. While it's definitely smart to follow that advice, you can do something else to help keep your mind and body in optimum condition. Connect with a critter. it goes a long way toward making you happy and healthy. Studies have shown that forming a relationship with an animal can have important health and psychological benefits. Owning a pet or interacting regularly with animals can lower human blood pressure, reduce anxiety and depression, and increase their social interaction. People who have dogs also tend to get more exercise from regular walks. It doesn't really matter what kind of pet you have, whether it's a cat or a dog, a fish or a ferret, an iguana or a horse. What's important is developing a relationship with an animal. Having a pet often provides people with a reason for enjoying life and connecting with others. This can be especially critical for older adults, who sometimes get socially isolated or struggle with finding a sense of purpose. It commonly happens after seniors retire, their spouses die, their ildren and grandchildren grow up, or their families move away Owning a pet serves as a wonderful way to rediscover a sense of purpose. It helps people feel needed and wanted. After all, most people can't help but smile when their dog greets them with its tail wagging or their cat curis up cozily on their lap. Providing for an animal's needs by going to the pet store or taking a dog for a walk helps reduce seniors social isolation by encouraging them to get out into the world. They may meet new friends at a dog park or at the pet store when they go to buy more birdseed.Questions:
$Q.1.$ How does owning a pet help the senior citizens?
$Q.2.$ Owning a pet serves a sense of purpose. Explain
$Q.3.$ Why does owning a pet have health benefits?
$Q.4.$ Are all types of pets beneficial? Why?

The great advantage of early rising is the good start it gives us in our day's work. The early riser has done a large amount of hard work before other men have got out of bed. In the early morning the mind is fresh, and there are few sounds or other distractions, so the work done at the time is generally well done. In many cases the early riser also finds time to take some exercise in the fresh morning air, and this exercise supplies him with a fund of energy that will last until the evening. By beginning so early, he knows that he has plenty of time to do thoroughly all the work he can be expected to do and is not tempted to hurry over any part of it. With all this work finished in good time, he has a long interval of rest in the evening before the timely hour when he goes to bed. He gets to sleep several hours before midnight, at the time when sleep is most refreshing and after a sound night's rest rises early next morning in good health and spirit for the labours of a new day. It is very plain that such a life as this is far more conducive to health than that of the man who shortens his waking hours by rising late, and so can afford in the course of the day little leisure for necessary rest. Anyone who lies in the bed late, must, if he wished to do a full day's work, go on working to a correspondingly late hour, and deny himself the hour or two of evening exercise that he ought to take for the benefit of his health. But, in spite of all his efforts, he will probably not produce as good results as the early riser, because he misses the best working hours of the day.Questions:
$Q.1.$ Why is it beneficial to get up early?
$Q.2.$ Why will the late riser be more inclined to hurry through his work?
$Q.3.$ How does the late riser lose out on freshness of mind?
$Q.4.$ Give another word from the passage which means 'helpful

Those who consider that good speaking is a business or professional asset, as well as a desirable accomplishment, will be prepared to take sufficient trouble to acquire a habit of clear accent. How many speakers have their hearers guessing at inarticulate words or phrases, and under the necessity of making up the meaning from the context of the sentence. Good articulation means that every sound in every word is distinctly word audible. The mind should always lead the voice, therefore, do not keep on looking at the words while you say it. Think while you speak, and the words will soon be in your mind. It is the sound that matters, not what the words look like; and remember that words, until they are spoken may mean anything or nothing. A useful little formula to follow is this: Breathe, Think, Speak. To breathe, then to think, will take just a couple of seconds. Do this consciously every time you practice, until it becomes an unconscious habit. It will give to your speech a quality of confidence and poise which will stand you in good stead upon any occasion when you may have to speak in public.Questions:
$Q.1.$ What problems do the audience of a bad speaker face?
$Q.2.$ How should the mind be used for articulation?
$Q.3.$ What is the truth about words?
$Q.4.$ What is the formula for good articulation?

Trees are the kindest thing I knowThey do not harm, they simply grow,
And spread a shade for sleepy cows
And gather birds among the boughs.
They are the first when day's begun
To touch the beams of the morning sun,
They are last to hold the light
When evening changes into night.
When the moon floats on the sky
They hum a drowsy lullaby,
Of sleepy children long ago
Trees are the kindest things I know.
