Question 12 Marks
cm3 The level of water in a measuring cylinder is at 12.5 ml. When a stone is lowered in it carefully, the new volume recorded is 21.0 ml. What is the volume of the stone ?
Answer
Level of water in measuring cylinder = V1 = 12.5 ml
The level of water in measuring cylinder when stone is immere
= V2 = 21.0 ml
Volume of stone = V2 – V1
V = 21.0 – 12.5
V = 8.5 ml

Express 500 cm3 of water in (a) ml (b) litre (c) m3
Answer
(a)we know 1 cm cube is equal to 1 ml , therefore 500 cm3 is equal to 500 ml.
(b) 500 cm3 = 500 ml
500ml= 1/2 litre
1/2 litre = 0.5 litre.

Question 52 Marks
Why using an overflow jar, a measuring jar and water, explain how will you find volume of a glass stopper.
Answer
under the spout of overflow jar, place a measuring cylinder. now lower a solid into the water and then it displaces water by its volume which makes the water flow to measuring cylinder ( which we placed earlier) from the spout. Record the volume of water collected in measuring cylinder.

Question 72 Marks
Name and define the unit in which the volume of matchbox is generally measured.
Answer
Volume of matchbox is given by l*b*h. Since all the dimensions are measured in (m) so unit is meter cube.
The cubic meter is the unit of volume in the International System of Units. The symbol for cubic meters is m3

Question 82 Marks
Why is the volume of a matchbox not measured in SI system ?
Answer
In an SI system, the unit of length is a meter. All the lengths are measured in meters. The dimensions of the matchbox are in centimeters and can not be measure in an sI system. Therefore the dimensions of volume are taken in smaller units i.e cm or mm.
