Question 13 Marks
There are fewer natural ports on the eastern coast of India.
Answer
There are fewer natural ports on the eastern coast of India due to the following reasons:
i. The Eastern Coast of India borders the Bay of Bengal and has formed as a result of depositional work of rivers.
ii. Due to the gentle slope of the land, east flowing rivers flow at lower velocities and deposit the sediments at the coast. As a result, deltas are found along this coast and make the coast shallow.
iii. A natural port can only develop where there is a deep sea and an indent coast line.

Question 23 Marks
Most of the Himalayan rivers are perennial in nature.
Answer
Monsoon Source: During the rainy season, these rivers receive heavy rainfall, which maintains a high volume of water flow.
Glacial Source: During the summer season, when there is no rain, the snow and glaciers in the high Himalayan peaks melt, ensuring a continuous supply of water.
Continuous Flow: Because they have dual sources of water (rain in monsoon and snow-melt in summer), these rivers never go dry and are called perennial.
