i. In India, Election Commission is central to the process of elections.
ii. To ensure that the electoral process is free, fair and reliable, Article 324 of the Indian Constitution established the Election Commission which is an autonomous body.
iii. Preparing the voters' list, deciding the timetable and programme of elections, scrutinising the applications of candidates, giving recognition to political parties, resolving disputes relating to elections are the functions of the Election commision.

i.India is the largest democracy in the world. The future of democracy depends on elections. Electoral process becomes reliable only if the elections are free and fair and not manipulated.
ii.For this, different electoral reforms have been suggested ahead:
a.The political parties should give 50 percent candidature to women candidates and ensure that they get elected.
b.Political parties should not give election tickets to candidates with criminal background. The decision given by courts should be strictly followed.
c.The government should take care of election expenses.
d.Representation of the People Act, 1951 should be amended whenever the need arises.
iii. It can be said that electoral reforms are very essential for the smooth functioning of democracy in India.
