(a) In but-2-ene, two different groups are attached to the double bonded carbon atom whereas in but-1-ene two identical groups are attached to one double bonded carbon atom, hence geometric isomerism is not possible in it.
(b) This hydrocarbon is ethylene because it reacts with Bayer's reagent (1% aq. KMnO₄) but reacts with ammonia, not will AgNO₃, because it does not contain active hydrogen.
