Question
A cell whose electromotive force is 2 volt and internal resistance 0.1 is joined with an external resistance of 3,9 . Find the terminal voltage of the cell.

Answer

Given that : $ E=2 V $
Internal resistance of the cell,
$r=0.1 \Omega$ and $R =3.9 \Omega$
Current voltage of the cell,
$ I=\frac{E}{R+r} $
Putting the value
$I=\frac{2}{3.9+0.1}=\frac{2}{4}=\frac{1}{2}=0.5 A$
Terminal voltage of the cell,
$V = E - Ir =2-0.5 \times 0.1$
$=2-0.05=1.95 V$
or $V = IR =0.5 \times 3.9=1.95 V$
