                 The humble son of a farmer from Sarakkalvilai village in Tamil Nadu's Kanyakumari district, Dr K. Sivan as Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) chairman was leading the Chandrayaan-2 mission to moon. Sivan studied in a Tamil medium government school. After graduating from S.T. Hindu College In Nagercoil, Sivan completed a Masters In Engineering from IISC In 1982. In 2006, he received Ph.D. In Aerospace Engineering from IIT Bombay.
                 Sivan is the first graduate in his family. His brother and two sisters were unable to complete higher education due to their poverty. "When I was in college. I used to help my father in the field. That was the reason he got me admitted to a college near our house." Sivan told TOI, "Only when I had completed my B.Sc. (Mathematics) with 100% marks his mind changed." Sivan said he had spent his childhood days without a shoe or sandal. "I continued wearing vest (dhoti) till college. I wore pants for the first time when I entered MIT." He joined ISRO in 1982 and worked on almost all the rocket programmes. Before taking charge as an ISRO chairman in January 2018, he was the director of Vikram Sarabhal Space Centre (VSSC) which develops rockets. He is known as ISRO's 'Rocket Man'.

His brother and two sisters were unable to complete their education due to poverty. When in college. Sivan used to also help his father in the field. He was the director of Vikram Sarabhal Space Centre, which develops rockets. He took charge as ISRO chairman in 2018 and led the Chandrayaan-2 mission to moon. He worked on almost all of ISRO's rocket programmes. He is known as ISRO's 'Rocket Man'.

                When you think of the most dangerous pests, the housefly probably isn't one of the first that comes to mind. Instead, you probably think of a pest that stings, like a wasp or bee.
                It is true that flies rarely bite or sting, but their danger lies in the fact that they often land on dead animals, rotten food, manure and trash. Because they frequent those places, they pick up and spread diseases that are harmful to humans.
               You get typhoid fever when you eat or drink Salmonella typhi bacteria in contaminated food.
               Cholera is an intestinal infection, and you get it when you ingest bacteria called Vibrio cholera.
               Dysentery is one of the more common diseases you might catch from the bacteria spread by a housefly.
               It gets worse-houseflies can also carry and spread leprosy and anthrax. They even transmit the eggs of parasitic worms!
               Fortunately, there are several methods you can use to keep houseflies away. So you and your loved ones can avoid catching any of the diseases transmitted by the tiny pests.
               A yard full of animal waste, grass clippings and other debris will keep you from getting rid of your housefly problem. So, take the time to keep your yards clean. You should cut the lawns.
               Flies love to hang out around rotting food, so make sure all trash cans are sealed tightly. Make sure all of your food is covered, and if you have fresh produce, keep it in a bag or sealed container. Also, avoid leaving dirty dishes in your sink. The scent of food leftovers could easily attract houseflies.

                 Fireflies are beetles and go through several life stages, starting out as an egg, then hatching into larvae. At the juvenile stage, they turn into pupae and then, finally adults. Fireflies spend most of their lives in a larval stage, hidden away. There are 2000 different species of fireflies. But they all go through a long juvenile stage and a short adult life, which is mainly about courtship, mating and reproduction. The juveniles living underground or underwater, art very different though-they're hunters, they eat snails and soft-bodied insects and they have very different habitats.
               Conserving them is essential for human life as fireflies are a key part of the food web. They are predators of agricultural pests. la turn, they are prey for spider and other insects. They are completely enmeshed in the web of life. In addition, about 70 years ago. scientists unravelled the mystery of fireflies' light-producing talents Since then, the bio-chemical reactions that fireflies experience have been used in detecting bacterial contamination in foods, testing drugs against cancer, developing drought-resistant crops. They have even been used in space exploration! So firefiles give us beauty and inventions. Fireflies carry oxygen, calcium, magnesium and a natural chemical called luciferin. These react together to produce the photons. This is how the fireflies glow.
               Firefly tourism is growing across the world. In Maharashtra for example, a particular species monsoon fireflies, emerge before the rains. They're beautiful and a festival is held in Purushwadi. encouraging firefly tourism. Its wonderful that people around the world go to see fireflies in their natural habitat. We need to be cautious. Too many people can disturb adult and larval habitats. Fireflies need darkness to communicate with each other and we need fireflies because they are harbingers of hope.

Despir this fact, it is found that the media is indifferent to building public awareness in this regard. From a month-long study of newspaper and periodicals, it was clear that there was no deliberate, systematic or sustainable effort to sensitise the public by investigative and factual coverage of the women. It was also found that the meagn coverage, not more than one per cent, was related to issues of women education, liberation, etc. but not with survival and development The rural women hardly figured in the media so says the report.
                The expectant mothers are undernourished, anaemic and hence they give birth to children who are handicapped. These childre do not receive prenatal care. Even if such children survive, four to six months later they become susceptible to diarrhoea, respiratory or other infections because of insufficient nutrition, incomplete Immunization, viral infection and Improper treatment. The resut is that by the time such children reach 3 years of age, they start showing signs of wasting. They do not grow to their mental and physical potential.
                 Unfortunately, the bias against girl babies still continues. In the slum areas in India's metropolitan citles, there still exists a bias against immunization of baby girls. The report expresses a feeling that a social awareness not merely laws could provide woman with the protection and the facilities they deserve.

The term RANGOLI is derived from 'Rang' (colour) + 'aavalli' (row of colours). Rangoli is an age old traditional folk art done across India. The term rangoli refers to designs made with coloured powders on the ground in front of the house. In some parts of the country, the designs are done on walls and even on ceilings. The designs vary in different parts of India but the basic methodology remains the same. in all the areas. The designs are mostly geometric and symmetrical, while some natural elements like flowers, birds etc. may be included.
The rural and urban women of India have kept this art alive by passing the expertise down through the generations. These are decorative designs made on floors at the time of Hindu festivals.
Traditionally, such floor decorations were done only on auspicious occasions or festivals. But today they are done on any occasions like, wedding, birthday parties, opening ceremonies etc. Different Indian states have different ways of Rangoli-painting and also have different names in their regional or local languages. For example:

The traditional material used for rangoli is rice flour so as to offer food to the ants, the birds and the squirrels. Even coloured rice can be used for the purpose. It is pretty simple to get rice coloured with food colours readily available in the market.
Nowadays white stone powder is used for making Rangoli.
Saw dust can also be used to make Rangoli patterns; its advantage is that it floats on water; which can be utilized to create Floating Rangoli patterns.
