The candidate for Presidency must have the following qualifications: State the qualifications of the candidate for Presidency and the tenure of his office.
$(1)$ The candidate must be a citizen of India.
$(2)$ His/Her age must be 35 years or above.
$(3)$ He/She must not be a salaried employee of central government or state government.
$(4)$ He/She should have qualifications to be eligible for the membership of the Lok Sabha or the Rajya Sabha.
$(5)$ He should not be a Member of Parliament or State Legislative Assembly. If he is a member, he has to resign when he is elected the President.
Term of office of the President:
$(1)$ The President may remain in office for a term of five years from the day he accepts his office after election. If he wishes, he can resign and leave office.
$(2)$ As long as the President is in office, no criminal case can be lodged against him/her and no order of arrest or imprisonment can be passed against him/her.
$(3)$ The Parliament may remove the President through the process of 'impeachment' for violating the Constitution or any other offence which is considered a serious threat to the progress of the nation.
$(4)$ After the end of the term of office, the President can apply for the candidature of Presidency for second term.
