Question
भस्मावशेषं  मदनं चकार।

Answer

Translation: That fire burnt cupid to ashes.
Explanation: This shloka has been taken from the third canto of "कुमारसम्भवम्" composed by the great poet Kalidas. The main topic of this section is the burning of cupid. The gods requested Lord Shiva to calm down. Seeing the fire being released out of the third eye of Lord Shiva, the gods realised what was going to happen with cupid. Before the gods requested Lord Shiva to control his anger, cupid was burnt to ashes by him.
Lord Shiva was a great celebate. If he got attracted towards Parvati, he would marry her and their son would help to assasinate a demon called Tarkasur. With this purpose, motivated by Lord Indra, cupid alongwith his wife Rati and friend Vasant reached the place where Lord Shiva was doing meditation.
Cupid started to disturb Lord Shiva and tried to attract him towards Parvati. When Parvati offered garland to Lord Shiva and stood aside cupid look aim at him with an arrow called "Sammohan". Lord Shiva lost his temper. Seeing this, the gods requested Lord Shiva to calm down but before that the fire released by the third eye of Lord Shiva burnt the cupid to death.
