Oxygen Dissociation Curve: The relationship between hemoglobin saturation and partial pressure of oxygen is displayed by a curve (see figure) which is called oxygen-hemoglobin dissociation cycle. Its shape is sigmoid or S shaped.
Partial pressure of $O _2\left( pO _2\right)$ is 40 mm Hg. If this happens then hemoglobin is $75 \%$ saturated. When the partial pressure of $O _2$ is 100 mg , hemoglobin is $97.5 \%$ saturated. Due to decrease in partial pressure of oxygen towards the tissue, oxyhemoglobin disintegrates due to which $O _2$ is released.

The shift of the oxygen dissociation curve to the right with the increase of $CO _2$ and $H ^{+}$ is called Bohr effect. Bohr effect contributes to the convection of $O _2$.
