Question
Define the following as related to proteins.
  1. Peptide linkage
  2. Primary structure
  3. Denaturation

Answer

1. Peptide linkage:
Amino acids are bifunctional molecules with $NH _2$ group at its one end and COOH at the other. Therefore, the COOH of one molecule and $NH _2$ of another molecule can interact with elimination of a H,O molecule to form an amide like linkage called peptide bond or peptide linkage.
2. Primary structure:
The sequence in which amino acids are linked together in a polypeptide chain forms the primary structure.
3. Denaturation:
The process by which secondary and tertiary structure of proteins get disturbed by change of pH or temperature, so that they are not able to perform their functions, is called denaturation of proteins.
