Downstream Processing: After the completion of the biosynthetic stage, the product passes through several processes before being refined and sent for marketing. These processes include separation and purification and are collectively called downstream processing. The product is formulated with appropriate preservatives. In case of medicines, such formulations undergo clinical trials. Every product also requires assured quality control testing. Downstream processing and quality control testing varies for each product.
