  • Poverty Alleviation Programmes have been implemented to remove poverty. They are:
  • SeIf-employment Programme:
  • Under this programme, a person doesn’t get employment directly but he is trained, so that he may be self-employed in future. At the village level there are programmes like:
  • Providing equipment to rural youth for self-employment.
  • Programmes of child and woman development.
  • Rural co-ordination programmes.
  • Suvarna Jayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojna $(SGSY):$
  • It provides training, bank loans, subsidy, market, self-employment to increase employment capacity and lift the rural poor above poverty line.
  • The District Rural Development Agency and Taluka Panchayat implement the programmes.
  • Suvarna Jayanti Shaheri Rojgar Yojna $(SJSRY):$
  • Efforts have been made to benefit the literate unemployed in the age group of $18$ to $35$ years and to develop the urban women and children.
  • Women are given subsidy.

  • Under this programme an unemployed person is given work and wage.

  • The objective of this programme is to provide wages and food grains for work to rural unemployed through activities like famine restriction works, afforestation, veterinary centres and development of water resources.
  • Pradhan Mantri Gramoddhar Yojna $(PMGY):$
  • The object of this programme is to improve the living standard of the rural masses by giving
  • importance to activities in the fields of primary health, pure drinking water, primary education, development of village roads, housing and electricity.

  • The Indira Aavas Yojna $(IAY)$ and the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Aavas Yojna provide housing facilities to rural poor free of charge.
  • Vaimiki Ambedkar Aavas Yojna $(VAMBAY)$ provide housing facilities to the urban poor. . Antyodaya Anna Yojna $(AAY)$ where $35\ kg$ food grains per month is given at subsidized rate to those living below the poverty line.
  • Rashtriya Samajik Sahay Yojna where the poor are provided help at the time of delivery, death of an unemployed person.
  • Nirmai Bharat Abhiyan and Sulabh Sauchalayas to raise the living standard of the urban and the rural poor by creating clean and healthy environment.
  • Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to spread education among the unemployed. National Food for Work Programme where unemployed workers in $150$ most backward districts are employed and the Central Government provides food grains through Public Distribution Scheme.
