Question
Describe the shape of s orbital.

Answer

Shape of s orbital:
For each value of principal quantum number $‘n \ ’,$ there is only one $s-$orbital.
For $s-$orbital$, l = 0 \ and \ m_l = 0,$ hence $s-$orbital has only one orientation i.e., the probability of finding the electrons is same in all directions. Thus, $s-$orbital is spherically symmetrical around the nucleus.
The value of $n$ determines the size of an orbital. With increase in the value of $n,$ the size of the $s-$orbital increases.
