The difference between paddy and sesame is presented impressively in this poem. Paddy is beaten severally by pestle. The more severe the beating is, the more shining it becomes. By severe beating, paddy becomes pure. While even with little beating, sesame turns into oilcake and abandons oil.

A gentle person becomes more and more pure and attractive as he suffers more and more hardship in life. While an evil person forsakes his love and affection and shows his wickedness whenever he suffers from trouble. Thus a gentleman is like paddy and an evil person is like sesame.
