In 1928, the Simon Commission's arrival in India led to a powerful protest. It was greeted peacefully with black flags under the slogan 'Simon Go Back'. Lala Lajpat Rai participated actively in it. The British police used lathi charge on demonstrators to break the opposition. In this action, Lala Lajpat Rai was injured and finally died on 17 November 1928.
