Distinguish between absolute and relative measures of dispersion.

  • Absolute measures of dispersion calculate a value which is at times difficult to interpret, so to overcome this problem relative measures of dispersion can be used.
  • Absolute measures of dispersion give the answer in units in which the original values are expressed, whereas relative measures of dispersion are free from the units in which the values have been expressed, so consequently they can be used to compare different variables.
