These are main five features of democracy:
People' choice and political freedom: In a democratic country, any citizen can aspire to fight elections for any post without the distinction of caste, creed, colour, and sex. People have complete political freedom.
Free and fair elections: Democracy ensures free and fair elections. It promotes Universal Adult Franchise and people can cast their vote for any candidate of their choice.
Freedom and Equality: Democracy implies freedom and equality among the people. People enjoy the freedom of speech and expression. They can criticise the government. Every body is equal in the eyes of law and is given equal opportunities.
Based on public opinion: A democratic government is based on public Opinion which lends it strength. Democracy stands on consensus, not on power.
Promotes Individual development: It promotes development and progress of an individual and arouses his interest in social activities.
