  • The term ‘Democracy’ is derived from the two Greek words - Demos (people) and Kratos (power). President Abraham Lincoln describes democracy as government of the people, for the people and by the people. We practise indirect or representative democracy wherein the people periodically elect their representatives and assign the task of governance to them. The government works to promote the well-being of the people. It respects public opinion. The elected government is ultimately responsible to the people.
