People's emotional experiences can be measured with the help of variety of scales. Some scales are used to measure only positive emotions like happiness or joy while others measure both positive and negative emotions. The common method of assessing feelings is to ask people to rate the frequency and intensity of different emotions they experienced during a given time period, for example – To assess affect valence. Diener and Emmons (1984) used mine descriptors. The descriptors for positive affect were happy pleased, joyful and enjoyment/fun. The adjective for negative or unpleasant affect were worried / anxious, frustrated, depressed/blue.
Another scale named “Positive Affectivity and Negative Affectivity Schedule (PANAS)” is also widely used to measure the positive and negative affect. It is interesting to see how to score. Use 1-5 rating scale to indicate how you feel to complete this measure.
