Question
Explain the following terms with example: Unsaturated hydrocarbons.

Answer

The carbon compounds having a double bond or triple bond between two carbon atoms are called unsaturated hydrocarbons. The unsaturated hydrocarbons containing a carboncarbon double bond are called alkenes.
e.g. Ethene $\left( CH _2= CH _2\right)$, Propene $\left( CH _3- CH = CH _2\right)$.
The unsaturated hydrocarbons containing a carbon-carbon triple bond are called alkynes e.g. Ethyne $( CH \equiv CH )$
