The force of attraction that holds together the components (atoms or ions) of different chemical species is called chemical bond. According to Kossel-Lewis when a bond is formed between two atoms. either electrons are transferred (ionic bond) or electrons are shared (covalent bond). When a bond is formed between two atoms they complete their octet.
When a bond is formed, there is total decrease in energy as a result of attraction and repulsion. Therefore stability of molecule increases.
