Question
Explain the importance/uses of fuse wire.

Answer

  1. Fuse is an important application of heating effect of electric current used in electric circuits.
  2. It protects circuits and appliances by stopping the flow of any excess electric current.
  3. If a current larger than the specific value flows through the circuit, the temperature of fuse wire increases. This melts the fuse wire and breaks the circuit.
  4. In summer season, when consumption of electrical power is huge in the evening due to home lighting, fan, air conditioner, use of electricity in shops etc, an excessive current is drawn from the transformer. If the capacity of the transformer is insufficient, its fuse wire melts, and the supply gets shut down.

The partially digested food coming from the stomach of a person enters a long and narrow organ A in his body. The organ A receives the secretion of two glands: liver and pancreas. Liver secretes a greenish - yellow liquid B which is normally stored in the organ C. Pancreas secretes pancreatic juice which contains three digestive enzymes D, E and F. The intestinal juice completes the process of digestion of food. The inner wall of organ A has millions of tiny finger - like projections G which help in the rapid absorption of digested food into blood stream. The undigested part of food then passes into wider tube H which absorbs most of the water from undigested food. The last part of tube H called I stores this undigested food (or waste) for some time. The undigested food is then passed out though opening J as faeces in the process known as K.
  1. Name the organ A.
  2. Name liquid B and organ C.
  3. What are the digestive enzymes D, E and F?
  4. Name the projections G present on the inner wall of organ A.
  5. Name Tube H, Part I, Opening J and Process K.
Express the magnification produced by a lens in terms of the focal length of the lens and (1) the object distance (2) the image distance.
The gland A is attached to the wind pipe in the human body. The gland A makes and secretes a hormone B which controls the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins in the body. The non-metal element C is necessary for the formation of hormone B. The deficiency of C in the diet can cause a deficiency of hormone B in the body leading to a disease D in which the neck of a person appears to be swollen. People are advised to use salt E in cooking food so as to avoid disease D.
  1. Name (i) gland A, and (ii) hormone B.
  2. What is the element C?
  3. Name one type of food which can provide sufficient C in the diet of a person.
  4. Name (i) disease D, and (ii) salt E.
A metal X forms a water soluble salt $XNO_3$. When an aqueous solution of $XNO_3$ is added to common salt solution, then a white precipitate of compound Y is formed alongwith sodium nitrate solution.
